Cramsie-Muttaburra Road, rehabilitate and widen pavement

A 3km section of aged, narrow pavement on the Cramsie-Muttaburra Road has been rehabilitated and widened, providing improved overtaking opportunities.

Communities near Longreach and Muttaburra rely on this road to access goods and services, education, employment and recreation facilities. The road also forms part of a key link connecting central Queensland with northern and southern parts of Australia.

In December 2022, works were completed to fully seal Cramsie-Muttaburra Road, improving safety, travel times and wet weather access.

Fully sealing this road also complements existing sealed access to Muttaburra via Barcaldine and Aramac, and has created a sealed loop to support tourism.

The department focussed on further enhancing the safety of Cramsie-Muttaburra Road by widening narrow, aged sections to an improved width of 8m. Works were completed in May 2024 to widen and rehabilitate a 3km section of the road to improve overtaking opportunities for the mix of vehicles that use this road.
