Double Island Point revised speed zone
We have extended the 6-knot vessel speed limit zone at Double Island Point lagoon area on the Fraser Coast.
The zone extension will now include the western parts of the lagoon. This will improve safety at this busy shared waterway.
In February 2022, a 6-knot speed limit was introduced in the area due to the risk presented by speeding vessels to other waterway users.
Since then, there has been a significant movement of sand that has resulted in an expansion of the lagoon.
We held community consultation earlier this year about the proposed revision after the community raised safety concerns and near misses in the area.The advice to extend the 6-knot speed limit zone was published in the Queensland Government Gazette (p.43) on 24 May 2024.
