The department is developing a masterplan to upgrade the Centenary Motorway corridor between Darra and Toowong. This initiative aims to improve safety, travel times and meet growing transport needs.
The Centenary Motorway is the main link between Ipswich, Queensland's fastest growing area, and the Brisbane central business district. It also connects the central business district to national road and rail networks.
The motorway is expected to be upgraded in stages as funding becomes available. When completed, the fully upgraded corridor will cater for the long-term transport demands with upgrades focusing on improving safety, efficiency and reliability for all modes of transport. There are currently no allocated funds for additional improvements beyond the Centenary Bridge Upgrade. Future stages of the motorway upgrades will depend on securing new funding.

The Centenary Bridge Upgrade in Jindalee will increase capacity and improve safety on the Centenary Bridge by building a new 3-lane northbound bridge and rehabilitating the existing bridges to 3 lanes southbound including upgrades to active transport facilities.
