Yandina—Coolum Road, South Coolum Road and School Road, upgrade roundabout
Construction is underway to replace the roundabout with a signalised intersection.
The department is planning to duplicate the Sunshine Motorway, between David Low Way to just north of Yandina-Coolum Road.
The purpose of this project is to increase the motorway's capacity from 2 to 4 lanes, to accommodate future growth, enhance safety, improve connectivity, and increase efficiency.
During the planning phase, provisions for active transport, such as bike riding and walking infrastructure, have been considered. The project also involves evaluating improvements to the Yandina-Coolum Road roundabout.
A separate project is underway to upgrade the nearby Yandina-Coolum Road, South Coolum Road and School Road intersection. This intersection upgrade will align with the future Sunshine Motorway Yandina-Coolum Road roundabout upgrade.
The business case phase is an important part of the project, as it investigates the preferred option in more detail to evaluate the design, construction costs and construction staging.
Community feedback received during the preliminary evaluation phase will be used to further develop the preferred option during the business case phase.
The timelines for detailed design and construction have not been determined and will depend on the availability of funding and the prioritisation of competing infrastructure projects across Queensland.
The business case planning for this project is fully funded by the Queensland Government. Investment ID 2683782
Consultation on the preferred option was undertaken in January and February 2023. The preliminary evaluation is nearing completion.
