Overview
Action 5.5: Test improvements to link bicycle injury and incident data sources to enhance analysis of serious injury road crash data.
Lead agency: Department of Transport and Main Roads
Status: Being finalised
Achievements
We are working on a database and supporting processes to securely store linked transport-related serious injury data from various sources including:
- road crash
- hospital admission
- cause of death
- ambulance
- compulsory third-party insurance claim data.
This database will let us better capture and analyse serious injury road crash data.
We established Memorandums of Understanding with the Motor Accident Insurance Commission, and Queensland Health to allow data sharing between departments. The data will be linked by Queensland Health's data linkage unit. The data will be managed and analysed by the cross-agency Road Safety Data Bureau.
Using linked data, Road Safety Data Bureau will be able to identify factors and associations that would otherwise be difficult or impossible to determine.
Next steps
The data will be processed and analysed. We will then create reports and dashboards to present the serious injury road crash data.
