Status: Ongoing

Cross River Rail is a new 10.2km rail line from Dutton Park to Bowen Hills in Brisbane due to be completed by 2025. The project includes 4 new underground stations at Boggo Road, Woolloongabba, Albert Street and Roma Street, 2 upgraded stations at Dutton Park and Exhibition, 6 upgraded stations from Salisbury to Fairfield, as well as the development of 3 new Gold Coast stations.

The Cross River Rail Delivery Authority (CRRDA) has worked closely with stakeholders to plan how people will walk and ride bikes to the new Cross River Rail stations including within the surrounding precincts.

Achievements

The CRRDA has worked closely with stakeholders to finalise the design of new stations including at Albert Street, Boggo Road, Roma Street, and Woolloongabba. These new stations have been designed to ensure comfortable and accessible walking connections are delivered.

The CRRDA continues to collaborate with stakeholders to facilitate the longer-term delivery of comfortable and accessible walking connections within the Cross River Rail Priority Development Areas at Albert Street, Boggo Road, Roma Street, and Woolloongabba. Key outcomes envisaged to be delivered in the longer term include:

  • The Albert Street Cross River Rail Priority Development Areas will facilitate active transport outcomes relating to Brisbane City Council's Albert Street “Green Spine” including closure of sections of Albert Street to motor vehicles to provide dedicated pedestrian access to the new Albert Street Cross River Rail station.
  • A new dedicated pedestrian and cycle bridge within the Boggo Road Cross River Rail Priority Development Areas delivered by 2025. This bridge will facilitate a connection between the Princess Alexandra Hospital over the existing rail lines to the new Boggo Road Cross River Rail station.
  • A potential new dedicated pedestrian connection linking the Gabba stadium to the new Woolloongabba Cross River Rail station to provide safe and convenient access to the station for stadium patrons and the general community.
  • Within the Roma Street Cross River Rail Priority Development Areas, a new station plaza at the Roma Street Cross River Rail station along with planning for improved permeability and dedicated pedestrian and cycle connections throughout the precinct.

For all these precincts, work is advancing to enable convenient, safe and comfortable access to the new Cross River Rail stations, and future surrounding development, for pedestrians.

Next steps

  • The Cross River Rail Tunnel, Station and Development team will finalise design and delivery of new Cross River Rail stations.
  • The CRRDA will continue to collaborate with stakeholders to identify comfortable and accessible walking connections within the Cross River Rail Priority Development Areas infrastructure plans, to be delivered over the medium to long term.
