Lead agency: Department of Transport and Main Roads

Status: Complete

Achievements

We are working with key stakeholders to assess options for a marked bicycle route between Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

In 2018 we completed a feasibility study and established a technical working group comprising Bicycle Queensland, local councils, and relevant state agencies to inform the process.

The feasibility study identified key issues, constraints, risks and opportunities to develop the proposed route.

This helped identify a potential route continuing south from Brisbane along the world class Veloway 1 cycleway and meandering through Logan’s creek and river parklands, before heading east to follow Gold Coast’s spectacular ocean front paths into the heart of Surfers Paradise.

A vision casting report, which outlines the vision for the iconic cycle route, and a high‑level concept has been developed and presented to key stakeholders.

Once completed, this marked route will provide an attractive, fit for purpose and enjoyable 100km bike ride between Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Next steps

We will continue to investigate feasibility of a marked cycling route from Brisbane to Gold Coast including options for branding and marketing, infrastructure upgrades, governance arrangements, funding and staged delivery.
