Achievements

The 150km Moreton Bay Cycleway connects many of the region's major attractions, including the Redcliffe Peninsula, Sandgate/Shorncliffe foreshore, Wynnum/Manly foreshore and Redland Bay.

Moreton Bay's natural beauty and its proximity to major urban areas presents a significant opportunity to attract more visitors to the region and tap into a lucrative national market for bicycle tourism experiences.

Since its original conception in 2003, the Moreton Bay Cycleway has been progressively developed through partnership between state and local governments.

We partnered with Moreton Bay Regional Council, Brisbane City Council and Redland City Council to develop a masterplan for the cycleway. We also consulted other stakeholders, including the Department of Tourism, Innovation and Sport, Tourism and Events Queensland, Brisbane Economic Development Agency and Bicycle Queensland.

The masterplan explores the best ways to optimise the cycleway route and provide a consistent, fit-for-purpose connection that meets the demand and expectations of a wide variety of users and offers a wide range of experiences. The masterplan suggests infrastructure improvements and alignment wide initiatives, and next steps for delivery.

Next steps

Local governments and relevant state agencies will use the masterplan as a blueprint for future planning, delivery and operation of the cycleway.

We will work with partners to establish a co-ordination group to implement the masterplan.
