Grants support local governments to gear up for rail trails

Overview
Action 4.1: Invest $14 million between 2017–18 and 2020–21 through the Rail Trail Local Government Grants program to develop, deliver and manage rail trails in partnership with local governments on disused rail corridors.

Achievements
We committed $14 million to support local governments to plan, design and deliver rail trails on disused rail corridors including:
- $9.5 million to construct Bundaberg to Gin Gin stages 2 and 3 (currently in planning)
- $2.1 million for 18 feasibility studies for rail trails from the Gold Coast to Far North Queensland.
Next steps
Future funding for local government development of rail trails yet to be determined.
